The annual Portman Group Survey shows an explosion in popularity of low and
no alcohol alternatives, with almost a quarter of drinkers who have cut down on
alcohol due to alcohol alternatives.
Forty-four percent of 18-24-year-olds claimed to drink non-alcoholic options
regularly or occasionally – up 13% from 2022.
The survey, conducted in partnership with YouGov, also reveals that 75% of UK
drinkers have now tried a no- and low-alcohol alternative, compared to 33% of
non-drinkers.
US EXPECTS MORE FIRST-TIME BUYERS IN 2024-
The non-alcoholic (NA) drinks trend, a category that has grown 62 percent year-
over-year in 2023, isn’t slowing down. Drizly recently announced a remarkable
167% YoY surge in alcohol-free spirit sales.
The US retail platform’s latest survey reveals that 64% or respondents will
explore zero-proof options for the first time in 2024. Over half of those (57%)
are planning to try non-alcoholic spirits at home, with 33% delving in to taste
mocktails.
“This coincides with the soaring growth we have seen in the non-alcoholic spirits
category in particular in the past year,” Paquette says. “Share is up 167 percent
in 2023 to date compared to 2022, making it among the fastest-growing
subcategories on the platform.”
The majority (57 percent) of survey participants who anticipate drinking non-
alcoholic beverages next year expect to do so while relaxing at home. They also
plan to enjoy NA drinks at social events, while hosting friends, and during
outdoor activities.
